Saint Mark, known as the founder of the Coptic Orthodox Church, was one of the four Evangelists and the author of the Gospel of Mark In the Bible. He traveled to Alexandria and Egypt where he established the first Christian church in Africa, converting many to Christianity through his teachings and miracles. Saint Mark also wrote his own liturgy which heavily influenced the liturgy of Coptic Orthodox churches use to this day. He was martyred in Alexandria around 68 AD, where his body was dragged through the streets, and his remains were later revered by the Coptic faithful. Saint Mark is celebrated as the first Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church, and his contributions to the church will forever be remembered as foundational to the Christian faith in Egypt, shaping its liturgy, theology, and spiritual life for generations to come.
